Comunicato Stampa

MLF Marie-Laure Fleisch is pleased to present an online-only duo exhibition with works by Alice Cattaneo and Nika Neelova. These two sculptors share an interest for architectural forms and their potential precarity. While Alice Cattaneo focuses on the combination of contradictory materials, such as Murano glass, cement, and thread, Nika Neelova imagines geological links with manmade forms, with architectural building blocks becoming geological strata or building materials returning back to their natural state. Cattaneo sees the horizontality and verticality in sculpture as a way to punctuate space, giving a rhythm and creating a tempo within an architectural environment. Nika Neelova deconstructs these architectures in a different way, showing that which is often invisible, such as the layering of buildings with insulation, foundations, and flooring, or the backsides of wall panels. The natural world is also evoked in both artists’ works ; Alice Cattaneo sees her glass lines as vertical horizons, creating natural divisions in space. Neelova brings geological processes directly into her work through human intervention, imitating sedimentary structures or geological formations with objects and architectures created for the human scale.
